sc – single crochet hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
Special Stitches;
Cinch Circle: cross yarn to make a loop, pass hook through loop from front to back, hook yarn and bring it back
through loop to pull up a loop on your hook, chain 1. This will make, and secure, the circle. Work all successive
stitches into circle over top of the shorter tail. When finished the first row of stitches, pull the shorter tail to cinch
the circle shut.
Notes;
- Thicker yarn & larger hook size = bigger flower: lighter weight yarn & smaller hook size = smaller flower
Pattern;
Centre R1: with Flower colour, make a cinch circle OR ch 4 and sl st to make a ring. 6 sc into circle, cinch
shut (6). Sl st into the first sc to join
Petals Row R2: *(sc, 3 dc, sc) into the next st*. Repeat from * to * 6 times total for 6 Petals. Skip the “false
st” and sl st into a loop on the backside of your Flower, near the center. If you are changing colours,
fasten off. If you are not, sl st into a loop (or 2 loops together) on the back of a Petal.
Leaves R3: join leaf colour with a sl st in a loop (or 2 loops together) on the back of a Petal. *ch 2, sl st
into a loop on the back of the next Petal*. Repeat from * to * 6 times total, sl st to join your last (6th) ch-2
loop in the same place that you joined your yarn (or finished R2 if you weren’t changing colours).
Leaves R4: *(sc, 5 dc, sc) into the next ch-2 loop*. Repeat from * to * 6 times total, join with a sl st to the
first sc of the first Leaf (6 Leaves)
Vine;
CH 36 (for longer vines, add as many chains as you like, especially if it’s for a big book!)
Hanging Leaf;
sl st into the 2nd ch from the hook, sc into the next ch, hdc into the next ch, 5 dc into the
next ch (this will cause you to turn your Leaf so you are working up the underside of the previously
worked chs), hdc into the next ch (the underside of the previous hdc), sc into the next ch, sl st into the last
ch. Ch 1, sl st down the middle (using the open spaces that sit between sts) of your Leaf. Sl st through the
top of the middle dc (the 3rd of 5) and through a corresponding chain of the Vine. Fasten off and weave
end in along back of Leaf. Sew button or bead to center of Flower. Weave in any yarn tails.
