Crochet Holly Explanation

In the winter months when everything is bare and gray, holly gives us a note of color with the bright green of its leaves and the bright red of its berries. A decorative plant considered magical and auspicious since ancient times and has long since become a symbol of Christmas.

To make the crochet holly you need to prepare the leaves and berries.

Neaded:

Cotton number 20 and number 10 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - needle - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

For the berries I used cotton number 20, for the leaves number 10.

Explanation of the leaf

Start 16 chains. Cut about 20 cm of galvanized iron wire and insert it to the chains working around the 1st round: 4 single crochet, 2 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 2 half double crochet, 4 single crochet. Curve the wire and on the other side of the chain repeat the same. The wire will be the rib of the leaf.

2nd round: 2 single crochet, a half double crochet and a double crochet in one point, 2 chain stitches and a slip stitch (it is a poppet on top of the double crochet), a double crochet and a half double crochet in one point, a low point. Repeat the same for the entire turn of the leaf. Finish the round with the 2 single stitches.

Twist the galvanized iron wire on itself for about 2 cm and cover this small stem by working the chains around it. Make 2 identical leaves. The third leaf will be the same as the others except the length of the wire which will be 28 cm. Once you have made the chains around the small stem, hold the work in suspense without cutting the cotton. Place the first leaf on it, join the 2 ends of the wire by twisting it on itself 3-4 times on all 2 sides, cut off the excess wire of the first leaf. Place the second leaf and do the same work. Join and twist the remaining wire on itself for about one cm (where it is more often with the help of pliers). Cover this small stalk with the cotton by working the chains around it. The remaining wire will be used to tie the sprig of leaves to the main stem. Model with your hands to arrange the leaves well. Make all the sprigs of leaves you

Explanation of the berry

Start 4 chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).

1st round: 2 double crochet closed together for the whole round.

2nd round: 1-2 slip stitches and close the work.

Make all the berries you need. In groups of 3 or 5 sew them to the center of the branch of 3 leaves.

Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Curve a tip twice to form a knot (with the help of pliers), it will be   the top of the stem. Fasten all the twigs of leaves and then cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it, except for those 3-4 cm that will be inserted into the vase.
Work a small dome by making: 4 chain stitches and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10). Place it over the knot of the stem and sew it to it.

Model everything with your hands giving the right curvature to the leaves and arrange the stems to create a small holly plant.
You can also make a single sprig to put in a gift box.
