Explanation of the crochet hydrangea

A beautiful and simple ornamental plant that with its wonderful colors decorates many gardens and terraces. Hydrangea is a plant that with its spectacular flowering keeps us company until autumn. A curiosity: the color of its flowers is influenced by the type of soil where it lives.
To make the crochet hydrangea you need to prepare the flowers that make up its characteristic corolla and the leaves that are of 2 different sizes.neaded : cotton number 20 and number 10 - 1.0mm crochet hook - scissors - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - plasticized iron wire - pliers.
For the leaves I used cotton number 10, for everything else number 20.
Explanation of the little flower

Start 4 chains and in the first make: 2 double treble stitches, a triple treble stitch (on the top of which make a chain and a slip stitch), 2 double treble stitches, 3 chain stitches, a slip stitch. Repeat the same for a total of 4 petals. Start each petal with the 3 chains that in the first are included in the initial 4 chains.
Make all the little flowers you need for your hydrangea.
Each flower has its own small stem that unites them to form the classic corolla. To make the small stem you have to cut a piece of galvanized iron wire about 10 cm long. At 2 cm from one point, wrap the cotton several times (a shade lighter than the flower) to form a small ball which will be the pistil of the flower. Block the cotton by twisting the iron wire 3-4 times on itself. Cut the cotton and the shorter piece of the remaining wire. The remaining iron wire will be covered with cotton by working the chains around it for about 2 cm. This work must be done for each flower.

Make bunches of 3 flowers each by twisting each wire on itself 3-4 times and each time cut the extra wire (only one will remain). The bunches of 3 flowers are again grouped into 3 bunches (you will then have 9 flowers in a bunch), always joining them by twisting the wire around itself (this time leave 2 pieces of wire, only one will be cut).

Prepare the main stem by cutting a piece of plasticized wire of the appropriate length and thickness.  Curve a tip twice, which will be that of the top of the flower (with the help of pliers). On the top of the stem, fasten the bunches of 9 flowers in order to create the classic corolla of the hydrangea. For mine I connected 3 for a total of 27 flowers. Then model with your hands by arranging the flowers to give them the right shape.

Explanation of the large leaf

Start 30 chains. Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that goes 2 times around the chains plus 2 cm more on each side.   Insert it into the chains working around the single crochet, 29 on one side and 29 on the other. It will be the rib of the leaf and the remaining wire will be used to tie it to the stem.
1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 11 double crochet, 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Redo the same on the other side of the low points. With a slip stitch in the middle of the iron wire reach the other side.
2nd round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 14 double double crochet, (make 3 increases), 3 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side.   Reach the other side with 1 or 2 slip stitches.

3rd round: 3 single crochet, in one point make: 1 single crochet, 3 chain stitches and in these make 1 single crochet and a half double crochet, one single crochet. Repeat the same for the entire turn of the leaf.
Stretch the work well and twist the iron wire on itself for about 2 cm to form a small stem that will be covered with the chains.

Explanation of the middle leaf

The procedure is the same as for the big leaf, only the initial chains change which will be 27 and the double treble stitches which will be 8 (10 in the second round).
Only 2 of these medium leaves will be made per stem as they are the ones that must be fastened immediately under the corolla of the flowers.
Once all the leaves have been made, fasten them to the stem which will then be covered with cotton by working the chains around them.
Then place each completed stem in the vase to create a small hydrangea plant.

Mine of course is just an example that you can modify and customize according to your imagination. They are also beautiful pink or white.

As always I hope to have been clear in the explanations and to have given you one more idea. Hello everyone, see you next time.
