Crochet Nasturtium Explanation

  Crochet Nasturtium Explanation

A very beautiful ornamental plant that cannot be missing in a vegetable garden, as its showy flowers are much loved by bees. Also known as a tropeolus, the nasturtium has a delicate flower that is also edible.
To make the crochet nasturtium you need to prepare the flower, the bud, the cup and the leaves which are of two different sizes.
Needed: cotton number 20 - 1.0 mm crochet hook - scissors - 0.45 mm galvanized iron wire - pliers - plasticized iron wire - glue (optional).

Explanation of the flower
Start 4 chains and in the first make 9 double crochet (total 10).
1st round: 10 high points.
2nd round: 2 double crochet in one point 2 times. Turn the work.
3rd round: 2 high points in one point, 2 high points, 2 high points in one point. Turn the work.
4th round: 2 high points in one point, 4 high points, 2 high points in one point. Turn the work.
5th round: 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point 6 times, 1 half double crochet. Turn the work.
6th round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point twice, 2 double crochet in one point 6 times, 2 double crochet in one point 2 times, 1 half double crochet, 1 low point.
Go down with slip stitches up to the round of 10 double stitches and repeat the same for a total of 5 petals.
To make the shades in the center of the flower, cut small pieces of cotton and with a pin of glue place them at the bottom of the center of each petal.

Explanation of the bud

Start 4 chains and in the first make 3 double crochet (total 4).
Turn the piece and continue following the explanation of the flower petal from the 2nd to the 6th round. Then go down with slip stitches up to the first initial chain and make another identical petal.

Make all the flowers and buds you need for your composition.

Explanation of the chalice

Start 9 chains and in these make: 3 single crochets, 4 half double crochets, 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Always in the first chain stitch: 3 chain stitches and 9 double crochet.
1st round: 15 double crochet (make an increase every 2 points).
2nd round: 15 high points.
3rd round: 6 chain stitches and in these make: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 3 double crochet. Skip 2 basic stitches, 1 slip stitch and repeat the same for a total of 5 points.

Cut about 25 cm of galvanized iron wire and wrap a little cotton (same color as the flower or bud) in the center to form a small ball.
With the help of pliers, block the ball by twisting the iron wire on itself for about 10 cm, thus creating the stem of union of both the flower and the bud. The remaining wire will be used to tie the flowers and buds to the main stem.
Insert the flower and the chalice in order. Same work for the bud that will be modeled with your hands by closing the two petals a little.
Cover the connection shank with the cotton by working the chains around it.
Shape everything with your hands, arranging the tips and the tail of the glass, if you need to starch.

Explanation of the large leaf

Start 4 chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12).
1st round: 24 high points.
2nd round: 36 double crochet (make an increase every 2 points).
3rd round: 54 double crochet (make an increase every 2 points).
4th round: 81 double crochet (make an increase every 2 points).
If you want to get a small ripple in the leaf, while working the 4th round, interrupt every 20 or 15 stitches and do: 1 half double crochet, 1 slip stitch, 2 chain stitches.

Explanation of the middle leaf

Same procedure as the big one with one round less, you will then work up to the 3rd round.

To make the stem for joining the leaf, cut about 25 cm of galvanized iron wire. Insert the 2 ends in the center of the initial 12 treble stitches. Pull it out from underneath and twist it around itself.
Cover the stem with cotton by working the chains around it.
Make all the leaves you need for your composition.

Cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Curve a tip twice to form a knot (with the help of pliers).
Attach the medium and large leaves, buds and flowers to the stem, alternating them.
Cover the stem with cotton working around the chains except about 2 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

To cover the knot at the top of the stem make a small dome: start 4 chains and in the first make 11 double crochet (total 12). Close the work by keeping the cotton a little long and sew it to the stem.

Model everything with your hands.
Place the nasturtium seedling in the center of the vase and admire your masterpiece.

Mine of course is just an example that I hope, as always, to have explained the best by giving you an extra idea.

Hello everyone to the next creation.
