 Explanation of the Crochet Turmeric Flower

A plant that produces truly beautiful flowers. Also known as "Indian saffron", Curcum a is highly appreciated for the healing properties of its rhizome, from which the precious spice is obtained  .

To make the crochet Turmeric flower you need to prepare the bracts, pockets and leaf.

Needed : cotton number 20 - 1.0mm crochet hook - 0.45mm galvanized iron wire - scissors - needle - plasticized iron wire - pliers.

Explanation of the bract

Start 20 chains.

1st round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet, 3 double crochet, 2 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Redo the same on the other side of the chains.

2nd round: 3 single crochet, 3 half double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point twice, 1 double double crochet, 2 double double crochet in one point, 1 double double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point twice , 3 half double crochets, 3 single crochets. Repeat the same on the other side.

For each flower make a total of 9 bracts.

Explanation of the pocket

Start 15 chains.

1st round: 1 single crochet, 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, 4 double crochet, 1 double crochet, 3 half double crochet, 3 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side of the chains.

2nd round: 1 single crochet, 2 double crochet in one point, 2 double crochet in one point, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point twice, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochet in one point , 3 half double crochets, 3 single crochets. Repeat the same on the other side in reverse.

For each flower make a total of 6 pockets.

To create the stem, cut a piece of plasticized iron wire of the appropriate length and thickness for the work being carried out. Using pliers, bend a tip twice to form a knot.

Starting from this knot, cover the stem with cotton working around the chains except about 3 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

To cover the top of the stem make a small dome: start 5 chains and in the first make 14 double treble crochet (total 15). Close the work by keeping the cotton a little long, place it over the knot and sew it to the stem.

To make the flower, sew the braces around the top of the stem with 2-3 stitches. The first will be sewn around the dome. All the others facing each other alternating positions.

Immediately under the bracts the pockets will be sewn, also one in front of the other, alternating the positions.

Start 5 chains and in the first make 14 double crochet (total 15).

To make the flower, sew the braces around the top of the stem with 2-3 stitches. The first will be sewn around the dome. All the others facing each other alternating positions.
Pockets will be sewn immediately under the bracts. They too face each other alternating positions.

Explanation of the leaf

Start 71 chain stitches.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire 2 times the length of the stem plus about 2 cm more per side. Insert it on the leaf by working a round of single crochet around it, on one side and on the other side of the chains.

1st round: 10 single crochet, 10 half double crochet, 5 double crochet, 5 double double crochet, 10 triple double crochet, 5 double double crochet, 5 double crochet, 10 half double crochet, 10 single crochet. Repeat the same on the other side.

2nd round: identical to the first.

Cut a piece of galvanized iron wire that has the same length as the one cut previously. Insert it to the leaf by working a round of single crochet around it. Hold work on hold.

Stretch the leaf well by shaping it with your hands. Twist an outer iron wire with a central one, first on one side and then on the other. Twist the two newly created stems further to obtain a single stem that is a little stronger.

Cover the stem of the leaf with cotton working around the chains except about 3 cm that will be inserted into the vase.

The short leaf is identical to the longer leaf. While working it you will only have to shorten the stem by about half.

Make all the leaves you need for your composition.

Stretch the leaves well by shaping them with your hands giving them a natural curvature.

Arrange the stems with the flower in the center of the vase and the leaves all around. The longer ones close to the flower and the shorter ones on the outside.
